What's on Around Whichford

Perhaps the most wonderful amenity is Whichford Wood. There is access to the woods if you follow the public footpath from the Church. Please click here for a link to the public footpaths. The Deer in the woods are currently being culled due to the population growth as a result, we suggest you stick to the public footpaths to ensure you do not endanger yourselves.

You will definitely need your wellies for this. In early May there is a sea of bluebells, in autumn there are chestnuts and hazelnuts and quite often, if you are quiet, you will see muntjak and deer.

The award winning village pub, The Norman Knight, serves good meals and has a lovely view over the village green. They also have excellent live music nights. The pub is open every day except Monday lunchtime (open bank holidays).

Whichford Pottery is also a wonderful place to visit, where there is a stunning garden full of inspiring pots, the Octagon gift shop and the marvellous Straw Cafe. The food is seasonal, locally sourced, hand made, hand baked and even home grown when possible. They have gardening master classes and adult pottery workshops.

Local shops

There is no shop in the village, but there are some very good shops nearby. The village shop in Long Compton has basic foodstuffs and sells papers. Wyatts Farm Shop near Great Rollright has a good selection of meat, vegetables, gifts and plants, wine and a cafe. The Village Shop, Hook Norton, is open until 8pm. Taste of the Country, Shipston-on-Stour, sell delicious handmade foods. You can find larger shops - Aldi, Co-op and Sainsburys - in Chipping Norton, 5 miles away.

Alternatively we have a cafe in the village - The Straw Kitchen - visit for a delicious, wholehearted brunch and coffee. For dinner you can visit the pub - The Norman Knight serving great food & local brews.

The Rollright Stones

The Rollright Stones is an ancient site, consisting of three elements, The Kings Men stone circle, the King Stone, and the Whispering Knights. It is well worth a visit and is just up the road.
